On the palate it is light and off-dry rather than sweet, with flavours of soft honeyed peach backed up by white flower and citrus peel notes. If you are used to rounding off a special meal with a luscious botrytis Semillon or similar, try this as an altogether more refreshing alternative.
The Acquesi Moscato d’Asti last year broke records when it won three trophies and was declared Best Aromatic Sparkling Wine in the Word at the 2019 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships in London. As the owners themselves declare –“It is an honour for us to receive this award, since it is an important recognition not only for our company but also for the whole Piedmont region, and for Italy too. It is a tribute to an ancient name that now deserves to be revamped.”
The name Acquesi refers to the small town of Acqui Terme where the winery is based – in the Belle Epoque era it was renowned for its Liberty style architecture (the Italian version of Art Nouveau), and its ideals of elegance, joy and ornamental detail, and this is reflected in the beautiful, intricate design of the etched bottles, which are an absolute show-stopper. The winery is focused solely on the production of top quality sparkling wines and is one of Italy’s most awarded and celebrated sparkling producers.
